Tall-e Takht (Throne Hill)

Massive fortified citadel of Cyrus with sweeping views across the plain

The fortified citadel of Pasargadae, built on a natural rise at the northern edge of the site. The platform is massive — roughly 200 metres long — with thick mud-brick walls reinforced by square towers. Cyrus likely used it as a treasury and military stronghold. The views across the plain from the top are worth the climb: you can see the full spread of the site, the surrounding mountains, and the sense of distance that made this location strategically significant. Less visited than the tomb or the palaces, which means you often have it to yourself.
