Hundreds of ancient stupas clustered on a hillside near the village of Indein, on the western shore of the lake. Many date back to the 17th and 18th centuries and are in various states of elegant decay — crumbling brickwork overtaken by vegetation, leaning spires, and Buddha images half-hidden in the ruins. The site sees far fewer visitors than the lake's floating attractions, which only adds to its atmosphere.
