Kinnagoe Bay

Sheltered beach below steep hills on Inishowen's north-east coast, where an Armada ship sank in 1588

Kinnagoe Bay is a sandy beach on the north-east coast of Inishowen, reached by a road that drops steeply from the top of the hill to a small car park at the bottom. It is one of the stops on the Inishowen 100, and the car park fills up fast on summer days.

In 1971 divers found the wreck of La Trinidad Valencera, a ship of the Spanish Armada that sank here on 16 September 1588, and a plaque in the area remembers it. The wreck now attracts fish as much as divers, and anglers come to spin from the rocks or cast from the beach for pollack, wrasse and bass.
