Lahinch Beach

Long sandy strand below the promenade and one of Ireland's best-known surf beaches

Lahinch's long sandy strand runs along the edge of Liscannor Bay below the promenade, and it's the reason the town exists as a resort. A guide of 1891 declared that for "length, width and evenness" it was not to be excelled in Ireland. Today it is one of the country's best-known surf beaches.

There are breaks for experienced surfers at the south end, while beginners do better at the quieter north end. Surf schools and shops along the promenade include Lahinch Surf Experience, Ollie's Surf School, Ben's Surf Clinic, The Green Room and Lahinch Surf Shop, all offering lessons and board hire. Check the tide before you go: the beach is covered at high tide.
