The palace of the bishops of Durham from the twelfth century until 2012, with state rooms, a great chapel and a Gothic deer house in the park. Its treasure is Zurbarán's series of paintings of Jacob and his twelve sons, bought by a bishop in 1756 and hung in the Long Dining Room. A new wing houses the Faith Museum.
