Etal Castle

Etal Castle is a ruined 14th-century tower house in the Till valley, close to Ford and the Scottish border. It was briefly taken by the Scots in 1513 before the Battle of Flodden, then declined after the border lost much of its military urgency.

The castle is a compact stop, best combined with Ford, Heatherslaw Corn Mill, and the other small heritage sights in this quiet corner of Northumberland.
