Two little cars linked by a cable run up and down the cliff between the town and the pier. Water is pumped into the tank under the top car until it is heavy enough to pull the lower one up. Opened in 1884, it is the oldest water-balanced cliff lift still running in Britain. It runs from spring to autumn. The pin is approximate.
