A sandy bay below magnesian limestone cliffs, a couple of miles south of South Shields, with Marsden Rock standing just offshore. Kittiwakes, cormorants and fulmars nest on the stack and the cliffs in spring and summer. The rock lost its arch in 1996, when it collapsed and left two stacks. Steps lead down from the clifftop, and the Grotto pub is built into the cliff itself.
