The city's civic trust on what it takes for granted, a history group that has researched four streets south of the river for decades, and a resident's twenty-year walking record of the city

Most writing about York is about the Minster, the walls and the Shambles. The best local writing is about everything else. The civic trust writes about the parts of the city its own residents overlook, from its paving to its flood meadows. A volunteer history group has spent years on a small patch south of the Ouse: Bishophill, Clementhorpe, Scarcroft and the shops of Bishopthorpe Road. And one resident has walked the city with a camera since 2004 and written up how it has changed.

They lead to the ings along the Ouse, a bar on Bishy Road with a butcher's tiles above the counter and a quiet stray behind the old Rowntree factory.
