About two miles east of Anstruther, on the coastal path towards Crail, a sandstone bluff is honeycombed with caves and arches. They were religious sites in Pictish and early Christian times, and ancient carvings survive on the rock.
They suffer from graffiti and litter, so don't go expecting a monument. But the walk out along the shore is lovely, and the caves make a natural halfway point on the stretch to Crail.
