The Scottish Fisheries Museum opened in 1969 and has spread through a group of old buildings around a cobbled courtyard on the harbour. They include the 16th-century Abbot's lodging and an 18th-century merchant's house. The collection has more than 66,000 objects and is one of the few in Scotland recognised as of national importance: model boats, gear, paintings, photographs, a fisherman's cottage interior, and 18 full-size boats.
The star is the Reaper, a twin-masted Fifie herring drifter more than a century old, restored by the museum's volunteers. She still sails in summer and otherwise lies in the harbour opposite. There's also a quiet memorial chapel to fishermen lost at sea. Allow at least two hours. There's a café on site.
