Aviemore Stone Circle

Bronze Age ring cairn and stone circle oddly preserved in the middle of a modern housing estate.

At the north end of town, surrounded by modern bungalows, is a Bronze Age stone circle around a Clava-type ring cairn. It's the same kind of burial monument as the more famous Clava Cairns near Inverness. The cairn inside the ring has been grassed over to protect it.

It takes five minutes, and the strangeness of the setting is half the point. If you want one in the woods instead, the Grenish circle two miles north is similar and has been left uncovered.
