Morrone (859 m) is the hill southwest of Braemar, and the birchwood on its lower slopes is a nature reserve. You reach it from the car park at the top of Chapel Brae, a few minutes' walk from the village centre.
Walk through the birks for an easy hour, or carry on up the hill path to the top. From the summit you look straight down on the village and across the Dee to the Cairngorm plateau. It's one of the best views in Deeside for the effort.
