Just south of the village, the roofless remains of a 13th-century Augustinian nunnery sit in a neat walled garden. Though less visited than the abbey, the ruins are among the best-preserved medieval nunnery remains in Scotland. The pink granite arches and carved stonework are striking, and the enclosed garden gives the whole place a peaceful, almost secret quality. It was founded around 1200, around the same time as the Benedictine abbey nearby.
