Lochbuie

Remote Mull glen of clan ruins, standing stones, sea-loch walks, and Ben Buie.

Lochbuie is a small, tucked-away corner of southeast Mull where the road ends in a glen of cattle fields, sea air, and old MacLaine history. It is not a village in the usual sense. It is a place you come to walk: from Moy Castle to the beach, from the old chapel-mausoleum to the stone circle, with Ben Buie rising behind everything like a blunt pyramid.

The charm is the concentration. Within a few miles you can see Mull's only well-known stone circle, a 15th-century clan tower, a hidden mausoleum, and Laggan Sands, a quiet bay where seals and birds of prey are more reliable company than crowds. It feels private without being polished.

Lochbuie is best treated as a spare-day escape from Craignure, Tobermory, or the Ross of Mull, especially if you already have a car. The single-track approach is slow and scenic, and once you arrive the point is to leave the car alone and walk the estate tracks. Bring waterproof shoes; the fields around the stones can be boggy even on a good day.
