Colvin Fountain

Victorian fountain topped by a bronze ram, the symbol of Moffat's wool trade, in the middle of the High Street.

The Colvin Fountain stands in the middle of Moffat's broad High Street. Local businessman William Colvin presented it to the town in 1875, and on top is a ram by the sculptor William Brodie, a reminder that Moffat grew rich as a wool market. The ram is the town's emblem, and the local rugby team are called the Rams.

It takes a minute to see, but you'll pass it anyway. The Moffat Toffee Shop and the narrow Star Hotel are close by.

A story
The ram has never had ears. They were missing when the sculpture was handed over to the town in 1875, and they have been missing ever since.
