Anglesey is small enough that the people writing about it know it field by field. The best of it is history: a private scholar who has spent years documenting the island's churches, lighthouses and monasteries. Alongside him are a family business that has been on the Menai Strait for decades, and the county's own guide to the cliffs around Holyhead.
What they share is a taste for the small and old: a twelfth-century church on a tidal island, a monks' dovecot, the heath above Trearddur where wild ponies graze.
