Little Haven (Hafan Fach) is a small village squeezed into a cove at the south-east corner of St Brides Bay. A handful of streets, three pubs and a slipway run down to a little beach between sandstone cliffs. It was a fishing and coal-mining village, loading coal onto boats from the beach, before it turned into a seaside resort in the nineteenth century.
Its twin is Broad Haven, half a mile north, which has the big sandy Blue Flag beach, the youth hostel and most of the facilities. The two make up a single community, The Havens, and at low tide you can walk between them along the sand. Broad Haven has a stranger claim to fame: in 1977 schoolchildren reported a UFO landing next to their school, and the "Broad Haven Triangle" still turns up in documentaries.
Little Haven is the nicer place to stay, Broad Haven the better beach. North along the coast path is the wild cove of Druidston Haven; south, the path heads around St Brides to the Marloes peninsula and Dale.
Haverfordwest is six miles inland, and a bus runs from there to Broad Haven.
