The French River Gorge is where the river narrows through rock near the Highway 69 crossing. It is one of the easiest places to see the shield landscape close up without committing to a canoe trip.
In winter, the snowmobile bridge gives a high crossing over the water. At other times, the visitor centre area and nearby viewpoints are enough to understand why this stretch of river feels more rugged than its easy road access suggests.
