This is the only thing in Filadelfia that behaves like a tour operator, and it is run by the Fernheim co-operative rather than by a company. From a small building in the Menno Simons Hof patio, opposite the Hotel Florida, they sell guided visits to the Fernheim museums, walking tours of Filadelfia, institutional tours through the co-operative's own departments — the refinery, the dairy, the cattle yards — and, most usefully for a traveller, they will put together an itinerary and coordinate visits to sites further out.
The museums are better than the phrase "Mennonite colony museum" suggests. The Jakob Unger natural-history collection holds 191 of the roughly 250 bird species of the Central Chaco, prepared by Unger and his son, alongside the region's trees, shrubs and cacti and an ethnological collection. The Dr Wilhelm Kaethler hospital museum is the oldest building in Filadelfia, put up in 1932, with the original operating table and instruments brought from Germany. The Koloniehaus was built by communal minga labour in 1933–34 and stands unaltered. There is also a school museum, an agricultural museum opened in 2021, an industrial museum in the 1957 refinery and an open-air park of pioneer vehicles.
Hours are Chaco hours, which is to say early: 07:00 to 11:30 Monday to Saturday, and 14:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday, shut on Sundays and holidays. Ring ahead — they answer a landline and a mobile, and neither is a WhatsApp as far as anything they publish goes.
