Er Lang Jian is the main scenic access point on the southern shore of Qinghai Lake, about 150 kilometres from Xining and the first place most visitors reach when coming directly from the capital. There are viewing platforms, a short lakeshore walk, and bicycle rentals for those starting the lake circuit. The entry fee for the main scenic area is around 100 yuan.
The view across the lake from the southern shore is wide and open — the mountains to the north form the horizon, and the water is that specific shade of cold blue that photographs well but looks even better in person. The grassland fringing the shore is grazed by yaks and sheep in summer, and small herders' camps occasionally appear close to the road. It is the most easily accessible section of the lake from Xining, and on summer weekends it can be crowded; arriving early or in the evening helps.
