Western Trail (Tianzhufeng)

The Western Trail is the quieter alternative to the main eastern ascent. Starting from a different base area and ascending via the Tianzhufeng (Heavenly Pillar Peak) route, this path is less crowded, less lined with vendors, and more genuinely mountain-like in character. It is also steeper and less well-maintained than the main trail, which means fewer casual visitors and more of the mountain's original atmosphere.

The Western Trail is most rewarding for those who want to experience the mountain as a landscape rather than a cultural monument — the forests, the rock formations, and the seasonal wildflowers are more visible when you are not being channeled through a tourist corridor. Allow extra time compared to the main trail; some sections require careful footing. The trail connects to the main summit area, so you can descend by the main route or cable car.
