Shuangqiao Valley

Shuangqiao Valley is the most accessible and most visited of Siguniang's three valleys — a 32-kilometre boardwalk and paved road circuit served by a shuttle bus that runs the length of the valley floor, allowing visitors to ride in and walk out, or vice versa. The mountain views at the head of the valley, where the four peaks of Siguniang come into alignment, are the defining images of the park.

The shuttle bus stops at a series of viewpoints along the way, and it is perfectly possible to spend a full day in this valley alone — doing a section on foot, catching the bus forward, walking again. The valley is about 2,800 metres at the entrance and rises to around 3,600 metres at the upper viewpoints, so acclimatisation from lower elevations is worth taking seriously. The light on the peaks is best in the morning; afternoons frequently bring cloud building from the west.

A story
The valley's name — Double Bridge — comes from two stone bridges that crossed the river here before the boardwalk was installed. The bridges are still there, but the 32-kilometre route now runs alongside them rather than relying on them. On clear days the four peaks of Siguniang Mountain appear at the valley's head, all four visible simultaneously from a single viewpoint roughly halfway along the main boardwalk.
