Paliton Beach

Paliton Beach, on the northwest coast of Siquijor near San Juan, is widely considered the most beautiful beach on the island — a sweep of white sand lined with ancient acacia trees that provide natural shade, with calm, clear water good for swimming. The beach is broader and more natural than many Philippine resort beaches, and the trees give it a character that palm-fringed strips often lack.

Several small beach resorts and guesthouses have opened along Paliton in recent years, but the beach remains far less developed than comparable spots in Boracay or Bohol. The snorkelling just off the shore is decent; for better diving you need to go to the outer reef with a dive operator from San Juan. A fresh coconut from one of the vendors on the beach is the appropriate refreshment after a swim.

A story
Paliton is one of the few beaches in the Philippines where firefly watching from the shore is reliably possible on dark nights — the mangrove trees at the creek mouth fill with synchronised blinking lights visible from the sand. No boat required; just wait until after dark.
