Ba Be National Park

Ba Be National Park covers 7,610 hectares of limestone karst forest in Bac Kan province. The terrain is dramatic — sheer limestone peaks, deep river gorges, underground streams, and more than 30 caves. The forest is a mix of limestone karst forest and lowland evergreen tropical forest, with over 550 recorded plant species.

The park is home to several globally threatened mammals: Owston's Civet, Francois's Langur (a striking black-and-white monkey found only in limestone karst forest), and the occasional bear and slow loris. Over 330 bird species have been recorded. The freshwater ecosystem of the lake and the Nang River supports endemic fish found nowhere else.

Trekking into the forest is possible independently on marked trails, or with a guide hired from the park office. The trails through the karst are genuinely beautiful but can be slippery after rain. The park entrance fee is collected at the main gate on the road from Cho Ra.
