Lough Fee sits in the hills north of Letterfrack and Kylemore, a long narrow lake hemmed in by steep slopes and accessible only on foot or by a rough track. It is one of the more remote and peaceful lakes in Connemara — you are unlikely to meet anyone here outside of a summer weekend. The hillsides above it give good access into the northern Twelve Bens.
The surrounding land belongs to Kylemore Abbey estate, which manages a deer population on the hills. Red and sika deer are regularly seen. The walk from Letterfrack takes about two hours round trip on rough terrain; the reward is a lake with no roads, no buildings, and the sound of nothing but wind and water.
