Marble Hill Strand

Popular sheltered beach on the shore of Sheephaven Bay, east of Dunfanaghy

Marble Hill is a townland on Sheephaven Bay a few kilometres east of Dunfanaghy, known for its beach. Like Killahoey and Portnablagh nearby, it is sheltered from the open Atlantic, which makes it popular for swimming in summer, and kayaks can be hired locally.

On 16 June 1942, in the middle of the Second World War, an RAF Lockheed Hudson landed on the beach here. Locals helped pull it clear of the rising tide, and after refuelling it took off again the next day. Ards Forest Park is just along the shore, so you can combine a morning on the sand with a walk in the woods.
