The Waterford Greenway is a 46-kilometre walking and cycling route on the old Mallow to Waterford railway line, and it's Ireland's longest greenway. It opened in March 2017 and was an instant hit, with more than 250,000 users in its first nine months. From Waterford it follows the River Suir, then heads cross-country over the viaducts at Kilmacthomas and Durrow and through the 400-metre Ballyvoyle tunnel, reaching the sea at Clonea and following the bay for the last few kilometres into Dungarvan.
The route is off-road and gently graded. Bikes can be hired in Dungarvan on Sexton Street, as well as in Waterford and Kilmacthomas, and in summer a shuttle bus takes riders back. The coastal stretch from Clonea into town is the easiest short ride, and the Durrow viaduct and Ballyvoyle tunnel are the highlights of the longer route.
