Cala Rossa

Cala Rossa is Favignana’s most famous swimming spot, a rocky amphitheatre of pale stone and startlingly blue water on the island’s east side. It is spectacular from above and even better when the sea is calm enough to swim.

The downside is no secret: access is rough, shade is scarce, and the cove gets crowded. Wear proper shoes, bring water, and consider going early or late rather than treating it as an all-day beach.

A story
Tradition links the name "Red Cove" to the bloodshed of the Battle of the Egadi Islands, when Rome defeated Carthage in 241 BC and ended the First Punic War. Whether or not the story is literal, the cove sits in waters crowded with ancient naval history.
