Seahouses

Fishing village and harbour where the boats leave for the Farne Islands

Seahouses is a small fishing village a few miles south of Bamburgh, and the place the boats leave from for the Farne Islands. In summer the harbour is lined with kiosks selling trips to see the puffins and seals, and the main street is busy with fish and chip shops, pubs and gift shops. It is livelier and plainer than its neighbours, and a practical base for this stretch of coast.

The harbour still has working cobles and lobster boats alongside the tourist boats. North of the village, St Aidan's Dunes run all the way to Bamburgh: one of the finest beach walks in Northumberland, with the castle getting bigger at every step.

Activities

Seahouses is where the Farne Islands boats leave from. Several operators run trips from kiosks along the harbour, from short circuits past the seals to landings on Inner Farne and Staple Island in the puffin season. The harbour is also the base for diving on the Farnes' wrecks and seal colonies, and for kayaking and coasteering on this stretch of coast.
