Working harbour and departure point for boat trips to the Farne Islands

The harbour at North Sunderland, as the old village was called, was built for the herring fishery and is still home to a few fishing boats. Today it is mainly where the Farne Islands boats leave from: several operators sell trips from kiosks along the harbour, and departures depend on the tide and the weather. Book ahead in puffin season, from May to July.
