A white lighthouse of 1898 on a small rocky island at the northern end of Whitley Bay, reached by a causeway that is covered at high tide. You can climb the tower's 137 steps when it is open. The rock pools around it, the seals offshore and the wetland on the mainland side are a local nature reserve. Check the tide times before you cross.
