Things to Do

Ingleton's appeal is almost entirely based on its landscape. The Ingleton Waterfalls Trail follows the two rivers that meet at the village through a sequence of cascades and gorges — probably the best waterfalls walk in the Yorkshire Dales. White Scar Cave on the road toward Chapel-le-Dale is the longest show cave in Britain and a worthwhile hour underground.

Above the village, Ingleborough is one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks — a long but straightforward climb rewarded with an Iron Age hillfort at the summit and views across the Dales. Between the waterfalls gorge and the summit, the Twistleton Scars offer a very different experience: stark limestone pavement, largely unvisited, with a lunar quality quite different from the greener Dales valleys.
