Nidderdale lies just east of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is a protected National Landscape of its own, and much quieter than its neighbours. The valley of the River Nidd runs from reservoirs high on the moors down through Pateley Bridge towards Harrogate.
Its highlights are the limestone chasm of How Stean Gorge, the wind-sculpted gritstone of Brimham Rocks, and the birds of Gouthwaite reservoir. The Nidderdale Way, a 53-mile circular walk, takes in the whole dale.
