Fitzalan Square

A Victorian square in the old town centre, with a medieval lane still running across it

A square laid out around 1880 in the old market district, below the former General Post Office. It never quite became the meeting place it was meant to be. Look for Jew Lane off one side and the steps down to the surviving end of Baker's Hill. Both are older streets that the square swallowed.

This is an intriguing piece of old Sheffield - a ‘lost’ street that thousands still walk the route of every day as they cross the square.
