Buachaille Etive Mòr

The great pyramid mountain at the entrance to Glen Coe, one of Scotland’s classic hill walks.

Buachaille Etive Mòr is the mountain that announces Glen Coe. From the A82 its steep triangular face rises with almost theatrical timing, a landmark that has become shorthand for the drama of the western Highlands.

Experienced walkers can make a serious day of it, taking in the Munro summits along the ridge, but this is not a casual stroll in poor weather. Even if you stay low, the views from the road and the approaches into Glen Etive are worth slowing down for.
