Moirlanich Longhouse

Rare cruck-framed 19th-century longhouse in Glen Lochay, preserved by the National Trust for Scotland.

A mile or so up Glen Lochay from Killin, the Moirlanich Longhouse is a rare survival: a cruck-framed cottage where people and animals once lived under one long roof. The National Trust for Scotland bought it in 1992 and has kept it as a time capsule of Highland domestic life.

When the corrugated iron roof was taken off during restoration, the old thatch underneath was found intact, and it has taught historians a lot about traditional Scottish thatching. It's open from May to September.
