Balloch Castle Country Park

Wooded parkland around a Tudor Gothic house at the southern tip of Loch Lomond

At the southern end of the loch, a short walk from Balloch station, the estate of Balloch Castle is now a country park of lawns, woods and lochside paths. The house is an early 19th-century Tudor Gothic mansion by Robert Lugar, built after the ruins of a 13th-century castle of the Earls of Lennox were cleared away; Glasgow Corporation bought it in 1915.

The house is on the Buildings at Risk register and not open, but the grounds are free and the views up the loch make it the best stretch of green space at the Balloch end. Loch cruises and water taxis to Luss leave from the town nearby.
