John Cobb Memorial

Roadside cairn on the A82 remembering the land speed record holder killed on the loch in 1952.

John Cobb held the world land speed record three times. On 29 September 1952 he was killed on Loch Ness while trying for the water speed record in Crusader, a jet-powered boat. The people of Glenurquhart put up a memorial cairn beside the A82 south of Urquhart Castle, looking out over the stretch of water where it happened.

It's a brief stop, with a lay-by and one of the better open views down the loch.
