Zihuatanejo eats what its pangas bring in. The small fishing boats pull up on the municipal beach in the morning and the catch is on the menu by lunch, which is why the seafood here is better and cheaper than anything the Ixtapa hotel strip serves a few kilometres up the road.
The cheap, good places cluster in El Centro and in the La Madera neighbourhood — a plastic table under an awning will usually feed you better than a tablecloth will.
