Querétaro's historic centre is a UNESCO site and best walked, but two things are worth booking: the legends walk at night, with actors in costume, and a day out on the cheese and wine route to the dairies, vineyards and cellars between Tequisquiapan and Bernal — which, with tastings involved, is better done without driving.
Further afield, the Peña de Bernal is an hour away and the Sierra Gorda missions a long day or, better, an overnight trip.
