Activities

Rocky Point's own beaches fill with Arizonans at weekends, but the trips that make it special go out of town. Isla San Jorge, Bird Island, is a rock off the coast where several thousand sea lions live; boats go out to snorkel and dive with them. The estuaries east of town are among the richest wetlands in the northern Gulf, and from January to March whales pass offshore.

Inland is El Pinacate, a UNESCO-listed volcanic field of giant craters beside the largest active dune field in North America. It is about an hour away, has few services, and is best seen with someone who has the permit and knows the tracks.
