Midwest Buddhist Temple was founded by Japanese-Americans who settled in Chicago after their wartime incarceration during World War II. The temple belongs to the Jodo Shinshu tradition, though its prayer hall was adapted to look more familiar in a mostly Christian American setting. It is best known to many visitors for its summer Ginza Festival, with Japanese cultural performances and food.
