One of the few remaining Ukrainian restaurants in the neighbourhood that gave the area its name — a straightforward, family-run spot on West Chicago Avenue serving borscht, varenyky (pierogi-style dumplings filled with potato, cheese, or sauerkraut), stuffed cabbage, and chicken Kiev. The setting is entirely unpretentious: plastic menus, generous portions, modest prices.
The restaurant attracts a mix of elderly Ukrainian-Americans returning to the neighbourhood for familiar food and younger residents discovering it. Closed on Tuesdays; cash preferred. The neighbourhood around it has changed dramatically as it gentrified, but the restaurant itself has not. Blue Line, Chicago or Division station.
