St. Procopius Catholic Church

1883 Czech Gothic Revival church, one of the surviving architectural monuments to Pilsen's Bohemian immigrant founders

A 1883 Czech Gothic Revival church that is one of the surviving architectural monuments to Pilsen's original Bohemian immigrant community. The church is named after a 10th-century Bohemian saint; its Gothic nave and stained glass are among the most impressive of Chicago's immigrant community churches.

The parish has transitioned from Czech to Mexican-American over the past half century and remains active. The church is open for Sunday mass; visitors are welcome to view the interior at other times during daylight hours. The adjacent St. Procopius Abbey and school buildings form a complex that gives a sense of the institutional ambition of Chicago's Czech immigrant community before 1900.
