Chicago's Chinatown, centred on Wentworth Avenue south of the South Loop, is one of the most intact and commercially active Chinese-American communities in the Midwest — Cantonese-speaking, with businesses that have been operating continuously since the neighbourhood's establishment in the 1910s. The main restaurant strip on Wentworth has dim sum houses, Cantonese seafood restaurants, and Sichuan places that have opened as the neighbourhood diversifies.
Phoenix Restaurant and MingHin Cuisine are the most established dim sum operations; the weekend morning queue at both is worth joining. The Chinatown Gate, the pedestrianised plaza at Cermak and Wentworth, and the newer Chinatown Square mall to the west are the main commercial areas. L Red Line to Cermak-Chinatown.
