Ancient flood meadows along the Ouse on York's northern edge, full of buttercups in summer and waders in winter

Hay meadows on the Ouse floodplain north-west of the city centre, cut for hay in summer and flooded most winters. With Rawcliffe Ings they make up about 100 hectares and are a Site of Special Scientific Interest. York's first race meetings were held here until 1730. The riverside path and cycle route from the city centre run alongside.
