Glasgow Cross marks the old heart of the city, where the medieval route from the cathedral met the roads towards the Clyde. The surviving Tolbooth Steeple is the main reason to stop: it is almost all that remains of the former city chambers, demolished in 1921.
It works best as part of a walk between Glasgow Cathedral, the Trongate, and Glasgow Green. The site is brief, but it helps make sense of how the early city grew south from its medieval core.
