The Horseshoe Bar

Address 17 Drury Street, Glasgow

The Horseshoe Bar on Drury Street is one of Glasgow's great Victorian pubs, preserved almost intact since it opened in 1884. The central horseshoe-shaped bar — allegedly the longest continuous bar in Britain — is surrounded by etched glass panels, carved mahogany gantries, and a pressed tin ceiling, all original. The pub is busy almost all day every day, serves food (notably substantial Scottish lunches at very low prices), and functions as a social institution for the city centre.

The Horseshoe has no pretension to being a gastro-pub or a craft beer destination; it is a pub that has been doing what it does for 140 years and sees no reason to change. The karaoke upstairs on Sunday evenings is an institution in its own right.
