Pollok House

Pollok House is an 18th-century country house in Pollok Country Park — the same park that contains the Burrell Collection — and is furnished as it was in the early 20th century when the Maxwell family donated it to the city. The house contains an outstanding collection of Spanish paintings, including works by El Greco, Goya, and Murillo, assembled by Sir William Stirling Maxwell in the Victorian era.

The servants' quarters have been preserved and are particularly interesting — the kitchen, the butler's pantry, and the housekeeper's rooms give a clear picture of how a house of this kind was actually run. The National Trust for Scotland manages the building; admission charges apply. The surrounding Pollok Country Park is free, extensive, and contains the only herd of Highland cattle within Glasgow city limits.
